MobileX Founder and CEO Peter Adderton Named 2026 Orange County Business Journal Innovator of the Year.

MobileX Founder and CEO Peter Adderton Named 2026 Orange County Business Journal Innovator of the Year

Honored for Building an AI-Powered Wireless Service That Gives Consumers More Choice, Control and Value

IRVINE, Calif. — October 8, 2026 — Peter Adderton, founder and CEO of wireless service MobileX, was named a winner of the Orange County Business Journal’s 2026 Innovator of the Year Awards. The award recognizes individuals and organizations demonstrating “brilliance and leadership in innovation,” and honors Adderton for his work disrupting the wireless industry through MobileX.

“Nobody should pay for wireless they don’t use. MobileX was built to fix that, using AI to give customers a plan that actually fits what they need,” said Adderton. “Orange County has been my home for 25 years, so this honor means a great deal. I’m proud of what our team has built and grateful to our retail and dealer partners, and especially our customers, who have embraced a different approach to wireless.”

Most U.S. carriers sell unlimited plans that cost the same whether a customer uses a lot of data or very little. MobileX does mobile differently by using AI to analyze each customer’s usage, forecast future needs, and recommend the right plan. Through the MobileX iOS/Android apps, customers can activate and manage their service, monitor usage, purchase additional data, and make changes at any time. Since its 2023 launch, MobileX has grown into a national brand. It now sells through Walmart, Best Buy, Amazon, and about 5,000 independent wireless dealers nationwide.

MobileX builds on Adderton’s more than two decades of challenging the wireless industry. He founded Boost Mobile in Australia in 2000 and expanded it to the U.S. where it became one of the fastest-growing names in prepaid wireless. He later founded Mandalay Digital, now Digital Turbine (Nasdaq: APPS), and Amp’d Mobile, an early pioneer in mobile entertainment. With MobileX, Adderton is continuing that track record of building wireless businesses around greater choice, flexibility and value for customers.

The Orange County Business Journal honored Adderton at its 12th annual Innovator of the Year Awards ceremony in Irvine earlier this week. A panel of judges selected him from more than 60 finalists across technology, healthcare, manufacturing, sustainability and the nonprofit sector.

How to Actually Lower Your Phone Bill Starting Today.

Your phone bill feels fixed, like rent or a utility; it actually isn’t. Most of what you pay every month is padding: data you never use, fees you never agreed to, and a loyalty penalty you didn’t know you signed up for. Maybe the promotional rate that got you in the door quietly expired and your cost has been creeping up ever since. Or maybe carriers have restructured their plans and pricing a dozen times since you signed up, and nobody ever moved you onto the cheaper, better-fitting option now sitting in their own lineup. Either way, the plan you’re paying for stopped being the best deal a long time ago.

Carriers are counting on you not looking too closely. So look closely. Here are five moves that lower your bill starting today.

1. Right-size your data

Start with the biggest line item. Unlimited is the default on most cell phone plans because it’s the easiest thing to sell, not because you need it. Pull up your last three bills and find your real usage. Most people are stunned, paying for fifty gig but only touching eight.

Once you know your actual number, you can shop for phone plans built around it instead of around fear. MobileX lets you build a plan from scratch by picking the data, and talk and text combo you need.

2. Call and ask for a better price

One phone call beats any coupon. Ask for two things in the same conversation. First, what a brand-new customer would pay for your exact plan, and whether they’ll match it, because the person who signed up yesterday almost certainly pays less than you do.

Second, every discount or credit you already qualify for but were never moved onto: loyalty credits, autopay or paperless discounts, a promo you were eligible for and never opted into. Log into your account first and read the offers tab so you know what to name. The worst they say is no, and plenty of people hang up with a lower bill for the price of ten minutes. Just remember these saves are temporary by design, which is the whole reason the best phone plans price fairly from day one instead of dangling a rate that expires.

3. Spot the “deal” that’s really a leash

A discount tied to a contract, a locked phone, or a bundle you’ll never fully use isn’t a deal. It’s a leash. The savings are real for a year, then the price creeps up, and the exit gets complicated.

Good mobile plans don’t need to trap you to keep you. Prepaid phone plans skip the contract entirely; you stay because it’s worth staying, not because leaving is a hassle.

So before you renew, price out what the same talk, text, and data would cost with no contract attached. Most people find the honest number is lower than the “deal,” which makes the next move an easy one.

4. Actually make the switch

The last move is the one people put off. Switching sounds like a lost afternoon of port-out PINs, account numbers, and unlocking your phone. It’s less than that. Have your account number and PIN ready, confirm your phone is paid off and unlocked, and the port itself takes minutes.

The best prepaid wireless plans are one app away. The only thing between you and a smaller bill is the myth that switching is hard.

The bottom line

Lowering your bill can mean an afternoon of calls, matches, and credits. It works, but it never stays fixed, because the carrier’s whole model counts on the price drifting back up. MobileX was built to end that cycle. Some of the best prepaid plans around, priced to your real usage, with nothing buried in the fine print. Check what your plan would cost at MobileX. Starting today, your bill is yours to lower.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are prepaid mobile plans really cheaper than what I have now? Usually, and often by a lot. A traditional bill is padded with contracts, retail markup, and data you never touch. We strip all of that out and price your plan to what you actually use, starting at $3.88 a month. Same calls, same texts, same coverage. You just stop paying for the rest.

How do I know how much data I actually need? MobileX’s AI Forecaster studies how you really use your phone and recommends an amount. Take its number or set your own. Either way, you stop guessing, which is where the savings on most cheap phone plans actually come from.

Will a cheaper plan mean worse coverage? No. MobileX runs on a major nationwide network, so the coverage behind these prepaid mobile plans is the same you’re used to. You’re cutting the markup, not the service.

Can I keep my phone and my number? Usually, yes. MobileX works with most unlocked smartphones, and your number comes with you once you have your account number and port-out PIN. Moving to good phone plans doesn’t mean starting from scratch.

How much do customers usually save? Users switching from legacy carriers and paying as much as $80 or more per month frequently see their bills drop by 80-90%.

Done paying for data you never touch? Build one of the best prepaid smartphone plans around your real usage. Download the MobileX app, or pick up a MobileX Activation Kit on Amazon or at one of 3,700 Walmart locations.

MobileX Powers CallSign Mobile, New Wireless Service Built to Support the Veteran Community

CallSign Mobile Launches as MobileX Introduces New Hybrid Retail Model for Brands Looking to Offer Wireless Services to Their Communities

IRVINE, Calif. and BROOKLYN, N.Y. — September 14, 2026 — MobileX, the most customizable wireless service designed to save consumers money, today introduced a new hybrid retail model that extends its wireless technology to brands looking to bring their own mobile services to their communities. CallSign Mobile, a veteran-founded company built to serve and support the service-connected community, is the first brand to launch under this new model.

With CallSign, MobileX powers the wireless experience, while CallSign leads the brand, customer experience, and relationship with the veteran community. MobileX is making the model available to brands across industries looking to bring wireless services directly to their own communities.

The relationship with CallSign also extends beyond the technology, with MobileX Founder and CEO Peter Adderton serving as an advisor to the company.

“CallSign is exactly the kind of company we want to support as we expand what we’ve built at MobileX,” said Peter Adderton, Founder and CEO of MobileX. “We’re proud to partner with a company whose mission is to serve those who served. This is as noble as it gets. Giving organizations like CallSign the technology and wireless experience to turn that connection into something bigger is an exciting next step for us.”

CallSign was created on the idea that everyday economic activity, including something as routine as paying a mobile phone bill, can support the veteran community. From its first day of service, the company will direct $1 per line per month to the Signal Impact Fund, which supports organizations and initiatives focused on veterans, including those affected by traumatic brain injuries and post-traumatic stress.

“CallSign was built on a simple idea: something millions of people already pay for every month can also become a way to give back,” said Adam Marr, Co-founder and CEO of CallSign Mobile. “We’re creating a wireless service that gives the veteran community a way to stay connected while giving back to those who need it most. MobileX is helping us turn that idea into a service we can bring to our community.”

The back-to-school plan that everyone forgets to right-size.

Back-to-school season is all about right-sizing. The backpack, the supplies, the schedule. One thing that usually gets skipped: the phone plan. Whether you’re setting up a first phone for a fifth grader or sending a sophomore back to their college campus, the plan that fits them probably isn’t the one a big carrier wants to sell you. When it comes to cell phone plans, one size doesn’t actually fit all.

Most students use way less data than you’d think

Students mostly spend their days on WiFi: whether it’s the school network, home, dorm, the library, or a friend’s couch. And during class, phones are often put away entirely. So the cellular data a student actually burns through is a sliver of what a big unlimited plan assumes.

Which is why unlimited, for most students, is more of a safety net than a necessity. It feels safer to have, but most of it goes unused. When your day starts and ends on WiFi, you don’t need unlimited. You need a plan that stops charging you for the data you never touch.

Which one is yours?

The best cell phone plans look different depending on who they’re for. Not everyone in the family uses their phone the same way, so why pay for the same plan?

  • First phone: mostly texts, a few check-in calls, location sharing. Very light data.
  • Middle or high schooler: group chats all day, some music and video streaming, but still on WiFi most of the time.
  • College student: heavier use, though campus and dorm WiFi still carry the bulk of it.

Same family, three very different needs. One-size-fits-all pricing ignores all of that.

Build the plan around the student

Here’s the smarter move: build your own. MobileX lets you build one from scratch: pick the data, add talk and text, and adjust it as the year goes on. September’s usage and finals week are not the same. Barely use it over break? The data doesn’t vanish. It rolls over to the next month as account credit.  We believe that if you buy a gigabyte, it’s yours. That’s the idea.

The bottom line

You’ll right-size everything else on the back-to-school list. The phone plan deserves the same five minutes. Whether it’s a first phone or a college line, the best phone plan isn’t the biggest one. It’s the one that matches how the phone actually gets used. For most students, that is a lot less data and a lot more WiFi.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I set different plans for different kids? Yes. Each line can be customized to that user’s talk, text, and data needs, so you’re not overpaying for the light users.

Can I manage multiple MobileX lines on one phone? With Xtensions, you can manage multiple lines under one account. You’ll be able to view usage and plan details, and adjust them in real time – all within the app.

Does unused data roll over? Yes. On MobileX’s personalized access plans, any data you purchase but don’t use rolls over as credit toward your next bill.

Do all MobileX plans include hotspot? Personalized access plans include hotspot and pull from your purchased data allotment. Unlimited plans include 10GB of hotspot.

Will MobileX work during travel? Yes, those traveling abroad can add Global X International Roaming for just $10 a day which includes 1GB of international roaming data, allowing users to keep in touch effortlessly while exploring the world with no hefty overseas usage charges.

Meet Some of the People Behind Mobile Done Different.

Here’s something worth knowing: the person who sets up your phone plan should actually be on your side. Too often, choosing a wireless plan means navigating confusing options without anyone really helping you figure out what you need. MobileX was built to break that cycle. And in more than 5,000 locations across the country, it’s real people making it happen.

These dealers know wireless, but more importantly, they know their communities. They’re the people customers come back to when they need a new phone, want to change their service, or simply have a question.

Here are two of the people bringing Mobile Done Different to life every day.

Moe M., Mobile One, North Miami, Florida

At Mobile One on NW 7th Avenue in North Miami, Moe has spent years helping customers navigate wireless and find service that works for them.

He’s worked with plenty of wireless brands over the years, and MobileX quickly became one he’s proud to recommend.

“They’re the easiest of the carriers to activate,” Moe says. “Most importantly, we really don’t like when customers come back and complain, and with MobileX we never get any complaints or issues.”

For Moe, making sure customers leave happy is what matters. Happy customers come back and recommend MobileX to their friends and family. People now even walk in and ask for MobileX by name, which is about the highest compliment we could get.

Moe Abuobeid, Wentworth Communications, Chicago, Illinois

On Chicago’s Southeast Side, you will find Mohammad “Moe” Abuobeid. Moe has spent more than 21 years in wireless, and he still lights up when he talks about it. He runs Wentworth Communications, also known as Get Connected, but ask him about the work and he will tell you about the people, not the business.

What keeps Moe going is the community itself. He sees a loyal neighborhood that rewards anyone who treats people right, and for him, showing up every day is a “must-win game” he genuinely loves.

Ask Moe what makes MobileX stand out for his customers, and he points to the everyday moments that matter most. There is real-time support chat, so he can answer a question on the spot and nobody leaves stuck. Activations are quick and straightforward. And he and his team know the phone plans inside and out, so they can point every neighbor to the right fit rather than the most expensive one.

“The future of MobileX is strong and bright,” Moe says. “I feel confident that MobileX will continue introducing newer and better things for both customers and dealers.”

Local Connections, Nationwide

These two dealers are just two examples of the people behind MobileX’s growing dealer network.

MobileX was built around giving wireless customers more control, whether that means choosing a plan based on how much data they actually use, opting for Unlimited or managing their service directly through the MobileX app.

For customers who would rather have someone walk them through it, MobileX dealers bring the same approach to communities across the country. They help customers understand their options, get connected, and find the service that’s right for them.

That’s Mobile Done Different, one customer and one neighborhood at a time.

Ready to get connected? Find a local MobileX dealer near you and let a real person set you up on wireless that works for you.

Why your phone service fails at crowded events.

Festival season is here. And so is the worst phone service of the year.

Whether you’re at a music festival, tailgating at a packed stadium, or standing shoulder-to-shoulder at a sold-out concert, your phone service is almost guaranteed to struggle. The problem isn’t your phone, and it’s not even your signal. It’s how your carrier handles congestion behind the scenes, and most cell phone plans are set up to leave you hanging when it matters most.

Why Your Phone Dies in a Crowd

When thousands of people hit the same cell towers at once, your device works overtime, constantly searching for a stronger connection, hopping between frequencies and re-negotiating for a spot on the network. Even the best wireless phone plans can’t stop a phone from “panic searching.” That constant radio activity is why your battery drops twice as fast at a concert, even when you’re barely touching your phone.

To manage this overload, carriers use a system called deprioritization. Think of the network like a venue parking lot during a major event: it’s packed, so carriers move standard-plan users to the back of the line to keep things from crashing entirely. This happens across all cellular plans, on every major network. The difference is what MobileX lets you do about it.

MobileX Gold Network: Skip the Wireless Queue

Most cell plans give you zero control when towers are slammed. Gold Network priority access changes that. Instead of being deprioritized, your data gets treated as higher priority, keeping you connected while everyone else stares at a spinning wheel. It’s one of the biggest advantages of good cell phone plans built around flexibility rather than fixed tiers.

It also helps your battery. With a more stable connection, your phone isn’t constantly re-searching for a signal, which dramatically reduces the drain you’d normally see at a crowded event.

Here’s how our two data tiers compare:

  • Standard High-Speed Data ($1.90/GB): Fast, reliable data powered by the nation’s most reliable 5G network. For everyday life, it’s all you’ll ever need.
  • Gold Network Priority Access ($2.10/GB): Your digital fast-pass. With Gold On Demand, you get a one-time high-speed boost for high-congestion environments. The kind of upgrade most prepaid phone plans don’t even offer.

How to Activate Gold On Demand

Headed into a high-congestion area? Here’s how to get your boost in seconds:

  1. Select Your Data: From the main screen, scroll down and select purchase on-demand priority data.
  2. Choose Your Amount: Add as many gigabytes as you’d like by simply tapping the up arrow in the data selector window. You can always add more later.
  3. Confirm and Pay: Review your purchase summary and click confirm and pay. You’ll receive a confirmation that priority access data has been added to your access reserve.
  4. Toggle Airplane Mode: To activate your priority data, toggle airplane mode on and off to connect to the Gold Network.
  5. Monitor Your Usage: Back on your homepage, your data wheel will show both standard and priority available. Priority data will be used first.

The Monday Morning Reset

Traditional carriers often lock you into rigid, one-size-fits-all cellular phone plans with high fixed costs every month, just so you’re covered for a handful of events each year. That’s the old model. With MobileX, you can right-size your plan for the weekend. Need a high-speed boost for a concert? Add it in seconds. Back to regular life on Monday? Drop back down to the lowest phone plan for your everyday needs, no penalties, no hassle.

This is what separates the best prepaid mobile plans from the rest: real flexibility that puts you in control, not your carrier.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to stay on Gold Network all the time? No. Gold On Demand is purchased as needed. Add priority data before an event, and your plan returns to normal when it’s used up.

How much does it cost? What if I want Gold Network each month? Gold Network access on demand runs $2.10/GB. For continuous monthly priority data, upgrade to Gold Unlimited 10 plan (10GB priority data, $19.88/month), or Gold Unlimited 30 (30GB priority data, $29.88/month), two of our best cell plans for heavy users.

How do I activate Gold Network data before an event? Open the MobileX app, tap “Purchase On-Demand Priority Data,” choose your amount, confirm payment, and toggle Airplane Mode on and off.

I added Gold Network but why does my data still feel sluggish? Make sure you toggle Airplane Mode after purchasing. That’s what switches you onto the Gold Network.

Ready to gear up? Download the MobileX app and build the plan that fits your life.

So...how does the
mobileX data match
actually work?

We know what you’re thinking...this can’t be right, right?!? It is.

Any data you purchase when on Personalized Access we will match. That’s double your data at no extra cost. Crazy right?

Here’s how it works:

You live, we learn. When you select Personalized Access, our app will suggest a custom data amount to best suit your usage. You can choose the amount our app recommends—or any amount you like—build your plan, your way.

It doesn’t matter what amount you end up choosing—we’ll match it, gigabyte for gigabyte, automatically doubling your data allowance upon purchase.

And, if at any time you want to top up your account with extra data, we’ll match that too! As long as you’re on Personalized Access we’ll double the data you buy.

Find out more in our FAQs.

Find your carrier below, and contact them today to unlock your phone.

1. Make sure your phone is paidoff

2. Ask your current provider for a port-out PIN if you're going to transfer your phone number

3. Request they unlock your phone (some carriers don't automatically do it unless you've requested they unlock it)
