MobileX Founder and CEO Peter Adderton Named 2026 Orange County Business Journal Innovator of the Year
Honored for Building an AI-Powered Wireless Service That Gives Consumers More Choice, Control and Value
IRVINE, Calif. — October 8, 2026 — Peter Adderton, founder and CEO of wireless service MobileX, was named a winner of the Orange County Business Journal’s 2026 Innovator of the Year Awards. The award recognizes individuals and organizations demonstrating “brilliance and leadership in innovation,” and honors Adderton for his work disrupting the wireless industry through MobileX.
“Nobody should pay for wireless they don’t use. MobileX was built to fix that, using AI to give customers a plan that actually fits what they need,” said Adderton. “Orange County has been my home for 25 years, so this honor means a great deal. I’m proud of what our team has built and grateful to our retail and dealer partners, and especially our customers, who have embraced a different approach to wireless.”
Most U.S. carriers sell unlimited plans that cost the same whether a customer uses a lot of data or very little. MobileX does mobile differently by using AI to analyze each customer’s usage, forecast future needs, and recommend the right plan. Through the MobileX iOS/Android apps, customers can activate and manage their service, monitor usage, purchase additional data, and make changes at any time. Since its 2023 launch, MobileX has grown into a national brand. It now sells through Walmart, Best Buy, Amazon, and about 5,000 independent wireless dealers nationwide.
MobileX builds on Adderton’s more than two decades of challenging the wireless industry. He founded Boost Mobile in Australia in 2000 and expanded it to the U.S. where it became one of the fastest-growing names in prepaid wireless. He later founded Mandalay Digital, now Digital Turbine (Nasdaq: APPS), and Amp’d Mobile, an early pioneer in mobile entertainment. The Orange County Business Journal honored Adderton at its 12th annual Innovator of the Year Awards ceremony in Irvine earlier this week. A panel of judges selected him from more than 60 finalists across technology, healthcare, manufacturing, sustainability and the nonprofit sector.
